AVOIDANCE LEARNING AND MEMORY TEST STATION

Model HAS1000

Avoidance Learning and Memory Test Station

DETAILS

The Avoidance Test Station offered here is the second generation of the unit that set the industry standard for versatility and design. With several component options and the ability to perform a multitude of paradigms, this system can easily adapt to your changing research needs. The easily removed grid floor with integrated waste pan has been designed with the user in mind to make cleaning as simple and hassle-free as possible.

The HAS1000 is the test station component only. A programmable door or gate that separates the two compartments is required for passive avoidance, but optional for active avoidance.  Add HGGF1000 General Purpose Grid Floor for testing rats and HGGF2000 General Purpose Grid Floor for testing mice.  Order a second floor so the cleaning of one can take place while the second is used for testing. This trick can improve performance and increase through put. Connect up to eight test stations to one HBSC100 Behavioral Core Interface running the H2050-0028 Avoidance II Application Software.

The HAS1000 does include a complete electronics package including a dual shocker embedded in the durable sound isolation enclosure. The top loading test arena includes ceiling mounted house light, visual and auditory stimuli and optional camera. A single piece removable grid floor is monitored for current leakage that could truncate the shock intensity and confound the data. Wall colors may be changed with provided panels or panels created by the user. A Rat or Mouse Grid Floor as well as the Auto Gate, Interface and Software must be ordered separately. Add additional floors to increase through put.

LEARNING AND MEMORY FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS

Stainless Steel Animal Compartments and Electronics-Free Grid Floor Designed with the user in mind, there are no electronics in the animal compartments. The grid floor is easily removed for cleaning while the chamber design makes it easy to wipe down the side walls if needed.

SHOCK

This innovation finally provides a solution to truncated shock. When animals receive shock they will inevitably discharge fluids and excrement. When this occurs there is the possibility that a coating will develop between shock grids. This coating can easily truncate some of the shock away from the subject, which of course will confound the data. To solve this problem we have built a unique testing circuit that helps you test for the condition and resolve it prior to running studies.

FULLY VENTILATED ENCLOSURE

OPTIONAL VIDEO CAMERA

Add the HLM-CAM Camera Option to monitor subject behavior without disturbing the session! An excellent tool for validation. Keep a constant eye on animal behavior or record sessions for later playback.  Does not include monitor or recorder.

VARIABLE INTENSITY HOUSE LIGHTS

Two LED arrays (one above each chamber) provide enough output to be used for an alternate UCS in active avoidance and to brightly illuminate the start chamber for passive avoidance.

CONVENIENT WALL PANEL INSERTS

Independently change the environment for each side of the test chamber.  Single Trial Passive Avoidance has long had the problem of First Trial Crossing Failure. The failure of the subject to cross to the dark side on its first exposure to the enclosure greatly puts into question the use of that animal in the data. These additional wall panels and other unique enclosure features are designed to reduce the impact of this common problem to a minimum.
